Passport control
When you fly from Groningen Airport Eelde to one of the Schengen countries (Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia and Sweden), you do not have to go through passport control. Passengers flying to a destination outside the Schengen countries, however, have to pass through passport control.
Travel documents
You are required by law to carry a valid passport or European identity card with you on your travels at all times. If you are travelling to Turkey, your passport should be valid at least for 6 months, on your day of arrival back in the Netherlands. If you require more information about travel documents, please consult your travel agent. All children must now be in possession of their own passport or ID card. The registration of children on their parent’s passport is no longer permitted.
Dutch citizens only: Apply for a passport or ID card well in time!
As of 1 October 2001, passports and ID cards are issued from one central location in The Netherlands. It is no longer possible to have a passport or ID card issued at your local town hall while you wait. On average, it will take approximately 5 workdays before you can pick it up
Urgent procedure
When applying for a passport, you can ask your local council for an urgent procedure. In that case your travel document will usually be available for pick-up from the Burgerzaken (Citizen Affairs) Department on the next working day, provided that your application is made in time. Ask your local council for further information.
Dutch citizens only: Temporary documents
In exceptional cases and subject to strict conditions, the Royal Dutch Military Police may issue a temporary passport. Not everybody will always qualify for a temporary passport. Each application will be assessed individually at the desk in the terminal.
For more information about Temporary documents, please contact the Royal Military Police at Groningen Airport Eelde: T +31 (0) 50 368 89 88.
Vaccination

Visa
You will need a visa in addition to a valid passport for some countries. A visa may be mandatory if you plan to stay in a country, but also if you are only planning to travel through the country. Some countries have special requirements regarding the expiration date of your passport – if your passport is not valid for a certain length of time, they may refuse to issue a visa to you.
