Travel and health

Do you have ear complaints?
Travellers who are bothered by the changes in air pressure during flight can purchase special earplugs at the airport shop, which will help relieve their complaints. When in doubt, please consult a physician beforehand.

Are you pregnant?

  • Until your 30th week of pregnancy you may fly without a doctor's certificate;
  • A doctor’s certificate is required if you wish to fly between the 30th and 36th week of your pregnancy;
  • From the 36th week of your pregnancy you are not allowed to fly.

When in doubt, always consult your family doctor!

Known (contagious) children’s diseases
A child infected with one of the children’s diseases listed below will not be accepted on a flight without a medical certificate in Dutch or English signed by an – independent – doctor. The medical certificate should indicate that the disease is no, or no longer, infectious and that is safe for the child to fly. This measure is to ensure your own safety, the safety of your child and the safety of the other passengers and the crew. In case of doubt, always consult a doctor.

Contagious children’s diseases are:

  • The mumps
  • Whooping cough
  • Measles
  • German measles
  • Fifth disease
  • Scarlet fever
  • Chicken pox

Part of the body in a cast
If you have a part of your body in a cast, you may only fly when you can present a medical certificate stating that you are allowed to fly with a closed cast. If this is not specifically stated, you must ensure that the plaster has been cut open across its entire length, or else you will not be allowed to board on your flight.

Fear of flying
Fear of flying is a well-known and socially recognised phenomenon. During business meetings and dinners, at parties, or in personal conversations, people will openly express their dislike of flying. But many people, it seems, are resigned to living with this fear, even though it is not necessary. Fear of flying is treatable, and has been treated by the VALK Association for many years, with excellent results.

The VALK Association helps people with a fear of flying with a combination of scientifically tested training methods, expert and highly committed trainers and advanced facilities. Their program is so effective that 98% of their clients are able to manage their fear of flying after completing the program.
